Projects
Current projects:
Currently the work group is focusing on collecting information on genetics educational resources in the region. In addition, the lay advocate members are working on collecting information on family-to-family support groups active in our region. In addition, a "Just in Time" wed based educational program on genetic disorders for primary care providers is being developed. This project aims to collaborate with regional American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Family Physicians groups to provide web based information on one or two disorders (as a pilot), with an option of receiving CME (continuing medical education) credits.
Family Health History
This initiative builds on the Kansas City Family History Day pilot project, by promoting Family Health History throughout the region, in conjunction with the Surgeon General's initiative. Efforts to promote, provide education and increase use of Family Health History include development and distribution of public service announcements, video and newspaper press releases, a regional Family Health History web site, modification of a tool kit for the Heartland region (available on the Family Health History web site) , a toll free number for consumers to request written materials, and a campaign to promote Family Health History through regional genealogy groups.
