The Heartland Regional Genetics Network is funded through a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), and Children With Special Health Needs Program, Genetic Services Branch (Grant Number: UH7MC35353)

Heartland began with a three-year award in 2004 to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. In 2006, a five-year competitive renewal was issued and awarded to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC). June 1, 2012, began the third cycle of funding, with a five-year grant award to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute. The fourth funding cycle began June 1, 2017, with the award going to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The current, fifth, cycle began July 1, 2020, with an award of $2.4 million to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
