The American College of Medical Genetics has recognized over 70 actionable genes that patients can opt into learning about when doing tests like Whole Exome Sequencing. In this podcast, the nature and importance of secondary findings are explored. Additionally, hear first hand from a participant of a population health study who learned about a BRCA2 variant because of secondary findings. She ultimately had earlier screening because of it, which caught a stage 1 cancer and was treatable. She expresses her satisfaction with her choice to pursue this research and helpfulness of having genetic professionals and primary care to speak to about the results.
