Clinical genetic counseling and translation considerations for polygenic scores in personalized risk assessments: A Practice Resource from the National Society of Genetic Counselors

Polygenic scores (PGS) help estimate one’s genetic risk for many conditions through a large amount of variants. It is a screening tool for medical outcomes but there is difficulty in translating these scores into actionable health care and more research still needs to be done, as the clinical utility is still hypothetical. This January 2023 practice guideline helps describe the current state of evidence, questions to consider when working with patients on potentially using PGS, and steps research should take moving into the future to make this a more promising and equitable health tool.
